Hi, how far is everyone through the course? We're almost onto NMR , has anyone done the NAB for Unit 3 and is it hard?

Hey, we did the unit 3 NAB a couple of months ago because of the order in which we did the course.
Unit 3 is pretty simple compared to unit 2, NAB isn't too bad either.

hi i've got the NAB on monday but not got a clue about what'll be in it. seems like we've rushed right through it all and none of the stuff has stuck in my head.
had to spend the last two weeks doing my investigation and PPA reports so not had much time for revising!

we just finished unit 3 before the holidays, well we didn't exactly finish it but our teacher says we've just to do the medicine section ourselves.
i've found this the hardest unit by far though!

I found unit 2 the hardest actually. Unit 3 seemed hard at first then it all clicked.
We havn't started unit 1 yet though!! I really would have preferred to have had all the units finished before the easter holidays.

Unit 3 is by far the easiest if you have done Radiation in Physics....thank god I have with the teacher I've got!

Hey, ive finished unit three.. just about a month ago. I found it alot easier than unit 2 but yeh my teacher was the same - totally rushed through it! So now were are tryin to get our investigations done and its a complete and utter nightmare! how are they goin for you all?

lol investigations! Well they are supposed to be 2000-2500 words aren't they, I'm currently trying to get mine down from 8000 !! And the SQA have told me I will definately lose marks unless I cut it down a bit.
Mine's on aspirin, what are all your investigations on?
I investigated the effect of the acid catalyst on the % yield, the quantity of catalyst, melting point analysis, thin layer chromatography, chelation/complxation of phenolic OH groups with an Fe 3+ ion and various instrumental techniques such as IR, NMR and mass spec.

Oh Investigations - . I've been intending to finish writing it up for quite a while but have been procrastinating too much. 
I've done my practical though and just got to finish the evaluation. I wasn't aware it would take so much of our time up though!

LOL. Yeah one of the marks is for 'The Report is clear and concise'.

Yup. It's in the Investigation Guidance sheets from the SQA

well my investigation started off being about the rate of an enzyme and what effects it! But because my school is so crap.. we didnt have half of the right equipment so i waited about 6 weeks for chemicals etc only to find out that we had to change it. Now i am doing, vitamin c in fruit juice - comparison of juice and seeing if what they say on the carton is actually right! I think its quite rubbish now tho! anyway...

I've not finished Unit 3 yet and still have some NABS to sit and I'm trying to finish my investigation but it's boring! I hate orange juice!
Unit 1 isn't too bad and some of the stuff in it is covered a bit in the other 2 units is it not? You'll be fine anyway.

I'm only on section 3 of unit 3! Was hopin to do a bit over the easter holidays only to discover that scholar wasn't working! Aargh! tried to work through the book but find it much harder-there's so much you don't need to know. At least i've finished my investigation-well, almost, my teacher says i need to put in a section on errors...i really don't understand errors! oh, well, glad i'm not relying on this result to get into uni! x
