i like higher history just because its a good and fair course
i think higher geography is also well constructred and fair, anyone who did GCSE geography will have great potential getting B or high A

higher modern studies is also OK, except the i have always been against writing 10 makrs essay in 17 minutes- theyre really teaching your 'time management skills' not ur modern studies skills, in fact doing disciplines like that wud make u hate modern studies. The whole point is to have given me a fiar interest in current affairs- do i read the newspaper more than i used to? No

i do like the fact they teach u 2 international issues though, and they r very well chosen - china (well face it guys, 10 yrs from now china will have taken USA as world super power economically) and poverty in africa, migration in USA- theyre well spread topics giving you an insight into the good and bad the world face

I do not like higher english- its a very tedious, however i now have a fair respect for shakespeare, i think higher drama wud have done a better job tho in that respect

I think busienss studies maybe useful, and easy, however it is quite boring? Dont u agree with me on that?

Therefore on the whole- higher history is a very well recommended course, it is well balanced, well stretched and pretty motivating. If you have no interest in 56 milliin people dying in world war 2- then frankely you have no heart or brain

I like:

History
Physics
Chemistry (when you begin to understand it)
Maths

At the end I also liked English but sometimes it is so pathetic that they mark you down in close reading for small things.

HATE:

French

It is the devil higher.

Likes
DRAMA! Bestest Higher yay!
Music - always fun to mess around in
Geography - was probably more the class, as I always loved going to geog, but the subject's fun too
Modern Studies - though I agree with the point about the 10 mark essays in 17 minutes, and hate reports. The actual material was interesting and we got to watch Question Time in class biggrin.gif

Dislikes
English - hated everything but the SSL and the reflective essay. Especially hated close reading. I generally don't like things that are compulsory
Computing - can be infuriatingly vague
AH Maths - super hard!

Well here's what it was like in 5th yr:

Loved:

Human Biology - soooo interesting, great class. Really hard though

Liked:

Maths - it was ok, but I didn't particularly like the teacher even though he's a great teacher

Chemistry - at times it was really good, but it was often boooooring

Disliked:

Physics - omg the higher course was NOTHING but calculations. It sucked.

Hated:

English - worst. subject. ever.

This year I'm doing AH Biology and Chemistry, and H French. Should be fun smile.gif

Higher History- great class, easy work enjoyed every minute of it, lots of laughs especially when i convinced half the class America was once part of the Ottoman empire
Higher Computing- was just pure banter with the teacher
Higher German- very easy work made easier by the fact was only one in my class

Higher English= most dull class of all time
Higher Maths= second most dull class of all time

this year
Adv Hi History- should be good only person in the class, lots of interesting work
Avd Hi German- should be good only person in the class, lots of interesting work
Adv Hi Computing- should be good only person in the class, lots of interesting work

I'm obviously weird seeing as everyone else seems to hate it but I love English! German's good too, it's nice having a class of only 7 people - we have a lot of laughs!

I can't STAND Human Biology. Sooo glad to be rid of it forever in a month or so! I don't understand it and don't enjoy it and therefore revising for it is a complete nightmare. I'm terrified I'm going to fail it sad.gif

My fav subjects:

Computer Science (SG/Higher/Uni) - absolutely ace, love it! biggrin.gif
French(SG/Uni)- great fun, bit dull at school, but it was interesting going to Uni without the Higher...
Mathematics(SG/Higher/Uni) OK, but at uni has just become pointless, dont know why half the stuff is going to be used in my comp sci degree! Dropping it for 2nd year biggrin.gif
Music(Higher/ATCL diploma)- Complete doss at school, did a crash higher and never ever did any work for it
ATCL - tricky, lot more to it, but i get letters after my name if i pass it smile.gif

My most hated subjects:

Physics(SG/Higher) - had the worst teacher in the world for this, just ignored him and taught myself dry.gif
Graphics Comm(SG) - I was just rubbish at this tongue.gif
History(SG) - Too much writing
Chemistry(SG)- Pointless (for me), did it to fill up the timetable
English(SG/Higher) - Forced to do it, didnt want to, had no fun whatsoever in the process

Also having a shot at beginners Italian at uni for some credits for 2nd year. Anyone done Italian??

Its interesting that you're finding French at uni not so bad even though you've not done Higher or Advanced Higher. I read a post from a first year girl doing French 1B (the non-beginner course that you have to take if you've got at least a B at Higher, although you say you are doing a course equivalent of AH at St Andrews without having done the Higher?) on the Edinburgh University Student Association message board. She was saying that she feels there is pressure put on her to do better than she possibly can, because the course is full of English students that went to private schools and got AAA at A-level, got better teaching, and therefore started the course with a significant advantage over her. I doubt she knows what grades most of the English people on the course got at A-level, but it was interesting to hear her opinion nonetheless. I'm pretty sure I won't be doing French at uni now, although that isn't really because of the girl's post.
