Are there any selective state schools? Do they exist?

Local education departments have the responsibility of running every state school in Scotland, except Jordanhill School. Jordanhill is classed as "grant aided" as it receives funding directly from the Scottish Executive. House prices in the catchment area are much higher than they would be without the existence of the school.

Positive discrimination is a good thing when only 32% of school leavers in Scotland go on to enter higher education but 83% of those going to private schools do so: http://www.westlothian.gov.uk/content/busi...asheet?s=242724

Just going off at a tangent. Boarding schools guarantee students a place in uni…at least that’s what my cousin said. She didn’t have the required grades to get into uni, so the boarding school sent her to summer school…

i have heard of summer schools and certainly the uni's have said that these can be used as a kind of entry qualification but thats got nothing to do with boarding schools just that particular one looks out for its pupils/inmates

Are you sure it guarantees you a place a uni? I would have thought it would have helped you get into uni, rather than guaranteeing you a place at uni?
