at last somebody agrees that the universities aren't interested in personal statements i always knew this but nobody would listen, you can always tell that when the funny duddy teacher come out and you get these crazy highly excitable speakers in that the thing they are talking about(personal statements) are a joke

If i am not here i am somewhere else

Well I've received my UCAS stuff. It says 'Date: 19/11/04' next to my application letter. I don't know if this is when my application was sent, or the day UCAS sent then letter out to me (it's now the 22nd).

The reference is an "open reference" so you should all be able to read it.

Can I read my referance?! I want to know what Jimmy/Alice said about me!

Not that either know me particularly well.

Ooh, I'm intrigued now.

Well, for the more competetive courses/universities they are!

For instance if you apply to Medicine, Dentistry, Vet Med, Law, Oxbridge then your personal statement is very important as most people applying will have the top grades, i.e. 5A's.

He'll let me read it if I flutter my eyelashes and look out my short skirt, haha!

... I'm sorry, I shouldn't encourage him.

has your referee did your reference yet? if not, you should speak to them about it. However, if you've actually sent it away to UCAS you'll have to ask advice from one of the older HSN members.

My school's just getting my reference sorted, so I would imagine the UCAS form will have been sent off by the end of this week anyway.

Sorry, when I said they were not often read I meant for the Glasgow science faculty. I know (having applied for medicine) that they are read and are very important for other courses.

In my interview at Glasgow for medicine they picked apart my personal statement asking why I had used specific words eg why did you write "reality here"?

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!
